The Carpet People by Terry Pratchett, 289 pages
This was an odd book and I’m not sure that I liked it very much. The book starts with the Munrungs, which means The People in their language. We are introduced to their chief, Glurk, and his brother, Snibril, and their medicine man, Pismire. The village is destroyed by The Fray and everyone sets out in search of somewhere safe. Along the way, they meet many other Carpet People, both friends and enemies and end up trying to help an emperor regain his throne from the mouls, evil creatures who eat meat and think that anything that isn’t a moul is fair game. This book was first published in 1971 and this new edition has been rewritten so it isn’t really the same as the original story. It wasn’t really bad, it was just a little too off the wall for me. I haven’t always liked Pratchett’s stories. People who are fans of his work and some fans of fantasy will probably enjoy it.
