Deepest Secret

Deepest Secret by Carla Buckley 427 pages

Eve Lattimore is the force holding her family together as her husband is commuting to Washington DC during the week, her teenage daughter is turning into a young woman and her son is  suffering from xeroderma pigmentosum, a disorder that means he must avoid ultraviolet light or suffer instant burns and melanoma.
Then one night as Eve is driving to pick up her husband from the airport she accidentally hits and kills her best friends daughter.  Eve is torn between doing the right thing and reporting the accident or keeping it secret so she isn't torn from her family.  As the book develops it becomes apparent that Eve isn't the only one with a secret.  Everyone on the cul-de-sac is hiding something.

Readers who enjoy Jodi Picoult should like this book as well.  It examines how every family has secrets and how we keep these secrets to protect not only ourselves but our loved ones.
