The Blossoming Universe Of Violet Diamond by Brenda Woods, 222 pages
Violet is a biracial girl in a family of white people. Her dad was African American, but he died when she was a baby. She’s never met anyone on his side of the family. Her mom is white and so is her older sister, because her sister’s dad was white. He died when she was little and her mom remarried Violet’s dad. At home, with her family, everything is fine, but when they go out, sometimes people give them funny looks and Violet hates it. Plus, she feels like she stands out all of the time, because they live in a predominantly white neighborhood. Violet loves her family, but feels like something is missing. Meeting her dad’s family may just be what she needs. A great story about a girl trying to find her place in the world, many kids in upper elementary grades would enjoy this book.
