The Golem And The Jinni by Helene Wecker 486 Pages
This book probably qualifies as fantasy although it doesn’t
have the same feel that fantasy usually does.
The main characters, Chava, a golem created to serve a master who dies
almost immediately after her awakening, and Ahmad, a Jinni newly released from
captivity who doesn’t remember how he came to be imprisoned, seem to be an
unlikely pairing. However, the happen
across each other in New York in the late 1800’s and develop a relationship of
sorts. Both of them are trying to build
a life in a world that makes little sense to them and may come to find out that
they are more closely tied together than they realized. Despite the fact that this is a story of two
mythological type creatures, it’s much more about relationships than
fantasy. It was a very good story, with
just a bit of excitement at times. I
would recommend this to people who like relationship stories that hint to the
supernatural.
