Pillar to the Sky by William R Forstchen 396 Pages
In the near future, budget crises have brought NASA's funding of future technology to a standstill as all funding is cut off. This is bad news for Gary and Eva Morgan who have spent 20 years studying and researching the idea of a space elevator as a means of expanding space exploration and solving many of the world's current power woes. Fortunately a wealth private investor is stepping forward to continue the dream and fund the construction. The book details the struggles and challenges to the project.
While the science is interesting much of the action is clumsy and repetitive. There were several instances where the author repeated himself with identical language. The characters are also simplistic and unrealistic. If you decide to read it will only be to get details of the potential of a space elevator.
