Unlucky Charms by Adam Rex, 382 pages
This sequel picks up where Cold Cereal left off, Scott and all of his friends are trying to stop Goodco from releasing their new, enhanced cereals. Goodco is really a cover for the Fay, who are trying to take over the world. Scott and his friends know the truth and are trying to prevent this, with little success, despite having some Fay on their side. Also, they have to undertake two rescue missions, one to save Prince Fi’s brothers and one to save the Queen of England. This is a fun, magical adventure story for 4th to 7th grade that won’t make much sense without the first book. Fans of Cold Cereal will definitely want to find out what happens to their favorite characters, but I didn’t like it as well as the first book. There were too many things happening in different places and too much switching between groups of characters for me to be able to stay focused all of the time. It had a lot of fun elements but overall not as satisfying as I’d hoped.
