Still Life with Bread Crumbs by Anna Quindlen
252 Pages
Rebecca Winter, a photographer, temporarily moves to the country as her career is seemingly over. She eventually meets Jim Bates, a roofer and as the book progresses so does their relationship. Rebecca finds herself questioning her roles of daughter, mother and wife and how, at the age of 60, she must find a new role.
The book is a quiet love story, with charming characters and a nice dog that nothing bad happens to (always an important qualifier). Almost set up as related short stories, the plot progresses slowly to a nice ending.
