The Program by Suzanne Young, 405 pages
Suicide is on the rise among the teen population and no one knows why. Several states have implemented something called the Program to deal with teens who appear to be at risk. Teens that have not been through Program are discouraged from interacting much with teens who have. Sloane knows better than to show any of her real emotions, for fear someone will think she is suicidal and take her away to the Program. One of her friends has already been taken and she knows that she’s being watched since her brother killed himself. She’s terrified to go because the teens that come back, while no longer depressed or suicidal, also can’t remember much of anything else either. Sloane is determined that she not be taken because she refuses to forget her boyfriend, James. James was also her brother’s best friend and seems to be the only one who truly understands how she feels. A very good teen book about what seems to be an all-too-possible future.
